Bargaining Update-Union to go to Fact Finding Panel

April 2, 2009

Dear Members,

The Union and University have been meeting with a state appointed mediator in an effort to reach agreement for a new contract. Despite the fact that our members took a 7% wage cut last year with the fee increase, the University has continued to stall on providing Academic Student Employees at CSU with a fee waiver. Because the parties have been unable to reach agreement, the mediator has released the parties to go to a fact finding panel.

The 3-person fact finding panel will conduct hearings and investigate the facts surrounding the dispute. Once the fact finding panel has issued a decision, the parties have 10 days to reach agreement. If after 10 days, there is no agreement, the University is able to unilaterally implement its “last offer” and the Union has the right to strike.

Because PERB has declared UAW and CSU at impasse, it is unlawful for the Union to strike during mediation and fact finding. However, once this process is completed, it still might be necessary to go on strike. A mobilized and powerful membership is critical to continuing to put pressure on CSU to negotiate in good faith for a fee waiver benefit. We will continue to provide updates as there are new developments.

Dear Members,

We begin the new year by continuing the fight for a new contract.  There has been no movement toward a new agreement since our last update in December.  However, UAW and CSU are slated to meet with Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg in the near future.  We believe that Senator Steinberg will be an effective mediator, and can help CSU and UAW reach agreement quickly.

Unfortunately, CSU has not expressed an equal amount of trust in Senator Steinberg as a mediator.  In an effort to derail mediation efforts with Senator Steinberg, CSU once again filed for impasse with the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) in December.  PERB subsequently  certified that the Union and CSU are at impasse.

UAW is willing to meet with a PERB-appointed  mediator to try and reach agreement on a contract with CSU.  However, we call on CSU administrators to accept Senator Steinberg’s offer to mediate our current contract dispute.  Now is the time for CSU to stop stalling and bargain a Fee Waiver. With fees continuing to increase, UAW 4123 members have taken a 7% wage cut in 2008/2009.

The impasse procedure involves a neutral mediator who will try to reconcile the differences between the Union and CSU. If this impasses process does not yield an agreement, then either party may request to have a fact finding panel investigate the matter further. The 3-person fact finding panel would conduct hearings and investigate the facts surrounding the dispute. Once the fact finding panel has issued a decision, the parties have 10 days to reach agreement. If after 10 days, there is no agreement, the University is able to unilaterally implement and the Union has the right to call a strike.

Because PERB has declared UAW and CSU at impasse, it is unlawful for the Union to strike during mediation and fact finding. LEGISLATURE SUPPORTS FEE WAIVER AND CRITICIZES CSU EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION

December 11, 2008

Dear Members,

Yesterday afternoon, CSU administrators faced bipartisan criticism in Sacramento.  Democratic and Republican members of the Senate Budget Sub-committee on Education hammered CSU for the University’s recent, irresponsible decision to give executives lavish compensation increases (to see the original story on executive salary increases, click here or go to http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/19/BAJ7147DGN.DTL 

Senator Gloria Romero also called CSU on the rug over the fact that UC gives fee waivers to academic student employees, while CSU continues to refuse to agree to a fee waiver for ASEs at CSU. Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg also re-affirmed his commitment to helping CSU and UAW reach agreement over the fee waiver dispute.

UAW members from around the state gave testimony at the hearing, giving firsthand accounts of how CSU’s unlawful bargaining and failure to reach agreement on a fee waiver has negatively impacted ASEs.  Following the hearing, legislators met with UAW members to share their commitment to fighting for a fee waiver for ASEs, and share their concern over the hypocrisy of increasing executive salaries 19% when ASEs’ wages have been cut, on average, 7%. Legislators’ solidarity with the UAW is a positive and helpful sign that with the assistance of Senator Steinberg, UAW and CSU can reach agreement on a fee waiver in the near future.

HOWEVER: legislative involvement is no guarantee that CSU will bargain lawfully, or that we will reach agreement with the University.  Members should remain prepared to strike in the event that CSU continues to bargain unlawfully.  We will keep you updated as things progress in Sacramento.

STRIKE POSTPONED: SENATE PRESIDENT STEINBERG TO WORK WITH
UAW/CSU ON REACHING AGREEMENT

Dear Members,

Senate President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg has called on UAW Local
4123 to and the CSU to sit down with him in an effort to reach
resolution on the current contract dispute.  The bargaining team has
agreed to postpone the strike, originally scheduled to begin at 7 AM,
December 10, pending these meetings with the University and Senate
President Pro Tempore Steinberg.

We believe that Senate President Steinberg will be a helpful influence
on negotiations, and will move CSU administrators to bargain lawfully
and help us reach agreement on a fee waiver.  The Senator has been
supportive of a fee waiver benefit for ASEs (see his letter to CSU
administrators here:

we look forward to working with him and CSU to reach a settlement.

UAW Local 4123 to Strike at California State University Beginning
Wednesday, December 10 Over CSU's Unfair Labor Practices

(CALIFORNIA) - UAW Local 4123 announced today that Teaching
Associates, Graduate Assistants, Tutors and other Instructional
Student Assistants will strike at the California State University
starting tomorrow, Wednesday, December 10 over the CSU's unfair labor
practices.  UAW members voted to authorize the bargaining team to call
the strike by a 98.5% margin.  Striking employees will be eligible for
up to $200/week in strike benefits.

The CSU's unlawful bargaining includes not providing information
critical to the bargaining process, not having the authority to
bargain at the table, and conditioning resolution of one critical
issue – a fee waiver for academic student employees – on settling wage
"re-opener" bargaining with other unions.

"Our members are prepared to hold CSU accountable for its unlawful
bargaining practices," said James Banks, President of UAW Local 4123.
"However, we remain hopeful that a strike can be averted."  A strong
majority of UAW 4123 members have signed on to a letter to Chancellor
Reed calling on the CSU to provide fee waivers to ASEs.

Legislative leaders, including Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, Senate
President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg, Senator Gloria Romero, Chair
of the Assembly Higher Education Committee Anthony Portantino, and
Chair of the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee Sandré Swanson
have called on CSU Chancellor Reed to negotiate a fee waiver with the
UAW.  Assemblymember Portantino wrote, "Despite their valuable
contribution to the mission of the University, ASEs took a 7% wage cut
when fees increased this year.  Without a fee waiver, the average ASE
earns a mere $1.80 an hour, after paying student fees."

ASEs are the only group of unionized employees or administrators at
CSU that do not receive a fee waiver benefit.  Fee waivers are also a
standard benefit for ASEs at universities across the country,
including the University of California.

The Union has the support of other campus unions and has secured
strike sanction from central labor councils around the state.

UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE STRIKE CALLED FOR WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 10

December 8, 2008

Dear Members,

The Bargaining Team voted unanimously this evening to call an unfair
labor practice strike at CSU.  The strike will begin at 7 AM,
Wednesday, December 10.  CSU's continued unlawful practices have
prevented UAW and CSU from reaching agreement on a new contract.  The
goal of the strike is to convince CSU to bargain lawfully and reach
agreement with UAW as quickly as possible.

None of us want to strike – our students have worked hard this term
and we want to proctor their finals and evaluate their papers, exams
and other end-of-term projects.  However, CSU's unlawfulness has left
the bargaining team with no choice but to call a strike.

The following are instructions to make sure our unfair labor practice
strike is strong, protected and effective:

1)    TURN IN ALL COMPLETED WORK TO YOUR SUPERVISOR.  If you have already
completed grading exams, or have entered grades in a paper or
electronic grade book, turn these materials in to your supervisor.  As
of Wednesday at 7 AM, do not perform any additional work.

2)    POROUS PICKET: The picket will be a "porous" picket at all campuses
as is the case with many strikes in the service or public sector of
the economy.  The goal is not to "shut down" campus or prevent
students from accessing campus.  It is important to ask everyone that
does come onto campus during the strike to support ASEs by calling the
campus President and demanding the education they are paying for.  The
best way to do that is to bargain lawfully with UAW.

3)    EXTRAORDINARY DUTIES: If you are asked to perform extra work to
"finish up" before the strike begins, contact the Union immediately
for advice.

4)    MOBILIZE YOUR STUDENTS: Give students the opportunities to help
mobilize for victory.  You can/should go to the classroom where you
normally teach and/or are scheduled to proctor a final and tell your
students that you are on strike, provide them with your campus
President's contact information, and ask them to call and tell the
President to bargain lawfully with the Union immediately and stop the
strike.

5)    NO PARTIAL STRIKING: It's important NOT to "partially strike" by
doing things like:
a.    Emailing with students instead of meeting with them in person;
b.    Holding study sessions or office hours off-campus ;
c.    Opening up labs for supplemental experiment time;
d.    Hold class on the picket line.

It is important to not "partially strike" for two reasons:
a.    A strike is powerful because it is disruptive.  If you perform
struck work – even in a non-traditional location or method, you are
decreasing the disruptiveness of the strike, and telling the
University that it can conduct its "business as usual" without
bargaining lawfully;
b.    Partial striking is not legally protected activity, and the Union
may not be able to defend you as successfully from discipline or
dismissal based on your activities as if you did not partially strike.

6)    NO WORK, NO PAY: Just as we have the right to strike our work, CSU
has the right not to pay us when we don't work.  However,

7)    STRIKE BENEFITS ARE $200/WEEK.   ASEs are eligible for up to
$200/week in strike benefits.  You can make yourself eligible for
benefits by participating in 20 hours/week of strike activity,
including picketing.  To sign up for picket shifts and other strike

Remember: CSU is causing this strike.  It is causing this strike by
refusing bargain lawfully and settle contract negotiations.   The
bargaining team remains committed and ready to sit down and negotiate
an agreement at any time.  Please be sure to check your email
frequently tomorrow (Tuesday, 12/9) and Wednesday morning (12/10) to
check on the status of the strike and negotiations.

University Withdraws Impasse & Bargains With Union

CSU RAISES EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION UP TO 19% - STILL STALLING ON FEE WAIVER

money for a fee waiver for academic student employees.  HOWEVER, the
University does have the money to increase executive's compensation –
in some cases by 20%.

CSU HAS THE MONEY TO NEGOTIATE A FEE WAIVER:  CSU Administrators are
directing the University's "scarce" resources to bump executives'
salaries by hundreds of thousands of dollars.  This is happening at
the exact same time that the University claims that it can't afford to
negotiate a fee waiver for academic student employees.

CSU MUST NEGOTIATE A FEE WAIVER FOR ASEs NOW: ASEs are dropping out,
dropping classes and extending our time to degree because of the
combined fee hike/budget cut this year.  CSU needs to negotiate a fee
waiver for Teaching Associates, Graduate Assistants and Instructional
Student Assistants now.

Dear Members,

CSU has taken the unproductive step of prematurely filing for impasse,
the fight for a fee waiver continues both at and away from the
bargaining table.

ASEs NEED A FEE WAIVER NOW: Providing a fee waiver immediately is
critical to prevent more Academic Student Employees from dropping out
of school. When fees increased this year, we all took a 7% wage cut.
We are the only employees at the CSU that took a wage cut this year.
Without a fee waiver, the average ASE is left earning only $1.80 an
hour. These wage cuts are forcing us to drop out, drop classes, and
take on second and third jobs just to make ends meet.

CSU HAS THE MEANS TO PROVIDE A FEE WAIVER NOW: CSU's budget increased
3% for 2008-09, or $111 million.  100% of the $111 million increase is
being funded by the student fee increase.  This has an inequitable
impact on ASEs.  We are the only group of unionized CSU employees that
does not receive a fee waiver benefit.  We are the only group of
unionized CSU employees whose wages are effectively cut when fees
increase.  Fee waivers are a standard benefit for ASEs, including at
University of California.

The University is claiming publicly that the State's economy and their
recent budget "cuts" make it "imprudent" for them to agree to a fee
waiver for ASEs.  This simply isn't credible.  Last month,  the CSU
gave $31.3 million dollars back to the state.  To be clear: the CSU
budget was NOT CUT.  CSU voluntarily gave $31.3 million back to the
Governor.

In light of these facts, it is hard for Administrators to argue  that
the University cannot provide a fee waiver.  At most, a fee waiver
would cost $8 mllion or 25% of what CSU just voluntarily gave back to
the Governor last month.


CSU NEEDS TO BARGAIN IN GOOD FAITH NOW: Our work is worth more than
$1.80 per hour. The CSU's recent giveback shows that they have the $8
million to fund the fee waiver without impacting their core functions.
CSU needs to come to the bargaining table and negotiate a fee waiver
for ASEs immediately.

CSU CONTINUES TO STALL

November 15, 2008

Dear Members,

We met with CSU for bargaining again today.  The University continues
their pattern of bad-faith bargaining.  They refused to honor their
agreement to schedule a call this week between the Union’s Research
Department and the University’s Budget Analyst, to discuss the Union’s
request for information and the University’s response.  CSU also
provided none of the outstanding information requested by the Union.
For example, CSU negotiators have said in emails to the campuses that
the cost of the fee waiver is between $8 and $11 million, but they will
not provide the information necessary to determine whether it is $8 or
$11 million.  Information that may reduce the cost of a benefit by over
25% would very likely have a significant impact on negotiations.

CSU also unilaterally ended today’s session, refusing to even consider
the Union’s proposal to extend the contract for a week while the
University makes additional responses to the Union’s request for
information and the parties meet to bargain a resolution.  The current
contract will expire tonight at midnight.

Finally, CSU unilaterally filed for impasse with the California Public
Employment Relations Board (PERB).  We did not join CSU in filing for
impasse, because we are not at impasse.  Impasse is the legal term for
when all good-faith efforts to reach agreement in bargaining have been
exhausted. CSU has been breaking the law in bargaining, and
unilaterally filing for impasse seems less a recognition that we have
exhausted all good-faith efforts at reaching agreement and more a tactic
to continue stalling bargaining a fee waiver benefit with us until after
they resolve bargaining with other Unions.

The University’s unlawful approach to bargaining makes it increasingly
likely that we may have no choice but to strike over the CSU’s unfair
labor practices.   We all take our commitment to teaching, tutoring,
grading and research seriously.  No one wants to walk away from the
classroom, lab or tutoring center.  However, the University has to honor
the “rules of the game” when it comes to bargaining, and the bargaining
team may need to call an unfair labor practice strike to get the CSU to
bargain lawfully.  As a reminder, we will give at least 24 hours notice
before a strike is to begin.

We will be in touch in the coming days with updates about what happens
with CSU’s request for PERB to certify that we are at impasse and any

CONTRACT EXTENDED ONE WEEK-UNION FILES UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE CHARGES

November 7, 2008

Dear Members,

Making progress on obtaining information necessary to bargain, today we filed
unfair labor practice charges at the California Public Employment Relations
Board (PERB) over CSU's unlawful bargaining tactics. These unlawful tactics
include: failure to provide sufficient information to bargain, conditioning our
negotiations on other Union bargaining, canceling bargaining dates, and sending
representatives to the table that lack the authority to bargain. These unlawful
tactics have prevented us from reaching agreement with the University on a new
contract.

We've extended the current contract until next Friday, November 14th. We're
talking with the University about them providing more information on Monday.
We're scheduled to bargain again next Friday afternoon, November 14th.

Fee Waiver Benefit Still in Dispute, Contract Extended Until Friday November 7!

October 31, 2008

Dear Members,

We met with CSU today and resolved most outstanding issues. We have not reached agreement with the CSU on a contract. The fee waiver benefit is the last major issue to resolve. Progress on this issue is being blocked by CSU’s continuing unfair labor practices.

CSU and the Union have agreed to extend the contract until next Friday, November 7th. We are scheduled to meet again with the CSU on that day.

Reminder About Logistics of a Potential Unfair Labor Practice Strike

October 30, 2008

Dear Members,

First, we want to be clear about the timing of a potential unfair labor practice strike. If the bargaining committee were to determine that circumstances justify calling an unfair labor practice strike, we will give you at least 24 hours notice of the start of the strike. That means, we will send an email, call and/or post a notice on our website detailing the exact time that the strike will start at least 24 hours before it is scheduled to begin.

Second, we want to update you on statements of support from Legislators. Read a letter encouraging Chancellor Reed to bargain a fee waiver with us.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS IN THE EVENT OF AN UNFAIR LABOR PRACTIC STRIKE

October 29, 2008

The California State University has committed numerous unfair labor practices during contract negotiations with UAW 4123 – the Union for TAs, GAs, and ISAs/Tutors. Union members voted by a 98.5% margin to authorize the Bargaining Team to call a strike if the circumstances justify, such as the University committing unfair labor practices. While the Union remains committed to reaching agreement with the University on a new contract by Friday, October 31, 2008, the University’s unfair practices may force the bargaining team to call a strike...

To clarify rights of employees, we use quotes below from “California Workers Rights”, published by the Center for Labor Research and Education, Institute of Industrial Relations, University of California, Berkeley.

“California Workers Rights”:

1. Your employer cannot legally discipline or discharge you because of union membership or activities.
2. Your employer cannot ask you how you feel about unions, strikes or any related topics.
3. Your employer cannot legally discipline or discharge you because you and your fellow workers join together in any effort to improve your working conditions or pay or benefits.

The chapter further describes unlawful coercion and co-optation by employers:

Your employer cannot legally require you (or any employee or job applicant) to promise not to join a union.In preparation for the strike, it is useful to keep in mind the following points:

1. You have a right not to be asked by your employer if you plan on participating in future Union activities like a strike and are under no obligation to answer. One way to respond is simply to tell the person asking “I have a right not to be asked that question.” You should notify the Union right away if the University asks you such a question.
2. If you are doing any of your job duties on or off campus during the strike you are not on strike! Examples of this are e-mailing students, holding office hours, going to class to let students know, etc.
3. Just as you have the right to strike, the University has the right to dock your pay when you strike. Pay docking and self-reporting requests from your campus of department should be fulfilled.

UAW Strike Benefits in Event of Unfair Labor Practice Strike

October 24, 2008

Dear Members,

Our contract is expiring next week, October 31, 2008. As we have discussed in previous emails, CSU has engaged in a pattern of unlawful bargaining practices. Most significantly, CSU is conditioning bargaining a fee waiver benefit with us on resolving bargaining with other Unions.

Not only do other Unions support us in our efforts to win a fee waiver, but they are calling on CSU to stop their unlawful bargaining and negotiate a fee waiver benefit with us now. See the letter to Chancellor Reed from CFA on our website by clicking here.

In the event that the bargaining committee determines that CSU's unlawful bargaining warrants calling an unfair labor practice strike, we wanted to inform you that UAW Strike Assistance for members who participate in a strike activity assigned by the local union (like picketing) is $200 per week.

We, a majority of the members of UAW Local 4123 demand that CSU provide a fee waiver to Teaching Associates, Graduate Assistants and Instructional Student Assistants immediately.

State University and Campus Fees at CSU continue to skyrocket, increasing 76% over 5 years. Most TAs, GAs and ISAs pay a majority of their wages back to CSU in fees.

The fee waiver is a standard benefit for Academic Student Employees across the country, including at University of California.

Rather than provide the fee waiver to TAs, GAs and ISAs—who provide much of the quality face-to-face education that makes CSU a great university, CSU has stalled and engaged in other bad-faith practices.

Further delay by the administration risks provoking a disruption of labor peace at CSU. We urge you to provide the fee waiver immediately.

With thousands of UAW 4123 members voting in the last two weeks, academic student employees throughout the CSU system voted by a 98.5% margin to give the Bargaining Team the authority to call a strike if circumstances justify.

Dear Members:

Before we update you on bargaining, we would like to take a moment to welcome
our new members. It was a pleasure to meet all of you at orientations and strike
votes across California. As your bargaining team we are grateful to have met
with you and talked to you about your employment status and rights these past
few weeks at various orientations from Humbolt to San Diego. We also extend a
huge thank you to our members who have been with us; your support is much
appreciated. 

We met with CSU again from 9/3/2008-9/5/2008, this is the only week that CSU has
not canceled any dates. In our three days with CSU we had good discussion on
potential non-economic agreements. Also, we tentatively agreed on one topic:
extending representation to interdisciplinary TAs. Previously interdisciplinary
TAs were having problems securing appointments. With this, no longer will
interdisciplinary TAs be excluded from the rights and benefits of this contract.


We are meeting again with CSU this week. We hope to wrap up our discussions on
the non-economic articles and further discuss the economic issues. Since the
California budget has not been released, coming to any economic agreements will
be challenging. You can help support the bargaining process by casting your vote
at authorized strike voting booths on your campus. If you do not know where/when
the booth will be on your campus please reply to this email for more
information.

We would love to meet with our members and get as many people involved with this
process as possible. As we negotiate we maximize our power with the best
bargaining chip we have, an
organized and mobilized membership. A great way to build power in our
negotiations is to help us talk to new ASEs at the upcoming TA, GA and ISA
orientations.  Members can help by organizing their department, making calls, or

STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE

August 28, 2008

Dear UAW Local 4123 members,

This is a reminder that as we approach bargaining for our second contract, we will be holding a vote on campus to authorize the bargaining team to call a strike in the event that circumstances justify, such as: the University commits unfair labor practices or we reach the end of the impasse process.

Under our Constitution and bylaws, the members must vote to give the bargaining team this authority. It is critical that we have a strong turnout and a strong yes vote so that the bargaining team will have the authority of a strong, active membership.

Dear Members,

Our bargaining team met with the CSU again on Aug. 6 & 21 to discuss their
responses on the non-economic items such as, orientations, job security, and
minimum appointments. We also presented the CSU with our initial economic
proposals which include fee/tuition waivers, health care, leaves, child care and
salary increases. While the state budget has not yet been finalized, we believe
we deserve to be paid fairly for the work that we do.

The CSU also canceled our Wednesday and Friday meetings. Despite the fact that
the CSU has canceled several days of bargaining, our goal of reaching a contract
by Sept. 30th is well within reach, provided that CSU's focus and commitment to
reaching resolution improve.

A crucial part of bargaining is getting information from the CSU that is
relevant to our proposals. We have asked the CSU for information regarding
non-economic articles, and the CSU has not fully met these requests. While the
CSU seems to be taking our bargaining and information requests seriously by
problem solving on how to get us the information, however, it is disturbing that
as of yet, they still have not provided us any information pursuant to that
request. 

We would love to meet with our members and get them involved with this process.

Dear Members,

After several days of bargaining with CSU for our new contract (our current
contract expires on September 30, 2008) we have reached tentative agreements on
two articles, Non-Discrimination and Workload. 

We reached a tentative agreement with CSU administration which bars
discrimination on the basis of pregnancy and gender identity. This agreement
contains a broad and cutting-edge definition of gender identity, which includes
protections around gender expression. This progress is essential in fully
protecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people
against discrimination and keeps our union at the forefront of the fight for
social justice.

We also reached a tentative agreement on workload protections that clarifies how
a reasonable workload is determined. 

While these are two very important articles--and represent a step in the right
direction--CSU has not addressed several of our key proposals to strengthen our
rights under the contract. While CSU’s most recent proposal improves the
specificity of job descriptions and timelines for notification of appointments,
it still does not address our fundamental concerns about job security and
minimum appointments.  In addition, CSU is hesitating to make our rights
regarding employment evaluations fully enforceable.  Moreover, CSU has yet to
meet our demands to strengthen the rights of the union to meet with TAs, GAs and
ISAs; to inform them of their rights under the contract and to enforce the
contract. 

Also, to date, CSU has cancelled more bargaining dates than they have kept.
While we anticipate an increased pace of bargaining in the next few weeks,
membership participation is crucial to ensuring CSU’s good faith participation
in the process.   If you would like to get involved in the bargaining process or

And one more reason to get involved in the union and help advocate for and
defend our rights and wages:  Governor Schwarzenegger recently requested that
state agencies cut the pay of state workers to the federal minimum wage until
the budget is passed.  While Chancellor Reed has assured CSU employees that we
will continue to receive our regular paychecks while the university seeks ways
to cooperate with the state to minimize the impact on the state general fund,
the more active members we have, the better we will be heard on this and similar
budget issues.

Greetings UAW 4123 Members!

As you may know, we are bargaining a new Union contract with CSU (our current
contract expires on September 30, 2008.)

Many of you filled out a bargaining survey and voted to ratify our initial
demands.  We found, based on you input, that there were several aspects of our
working conditions that should be changed and/or updated to create a better work
environment.

Currently the bargaining is focused on non-economic issues including: stronger
enforcement of our work load rights; improved posting of job opportunities;
enhanced job security; more transparency in the appointment process, evaluation
process, and non-discrimination clause.  As we get closer to the contract
expiration, we will be meeting more frequently with the CSU to finalize our
contract and will contact you with more updates and opportunities to participate

STUDENT STATEWIDE DAY OF ACTION APRIL 21st

As you know, the entire CSU community is coming together to fight proposed budget cuts to the CSU. These budget cuts could severely limit the quality of education at CSU. April 21st, 2008 will be a Student Statewide Day of Action, taking place across California. You are encouraged to attend and participate in these rallies and marches to make our voice heard.
